Harvest 4-Health Afterschool Program

The Penn State Extension of Franklin County is proud to take part of the statewide effort Harvest 4-Health. This afterschool program provides youth the opportunity to learn healthy lifestyle choices.
The Harvest 4-Health initiative is a statewide effort to provide hands-on opportunities to 4-H members and other youth to learn about food sources, vegetable gardening, food system, eating healthy, fitness, and healthy lifestyle choices.
In combined efforts, the 4-H educators, Master Gardeners and other educators within the Franklin County Extension office have established six raised gardening beds with an afterschool program. There 60 youth have learned how to start a raised bed, plant vegetables and are currently helping to care for their plants.
As the program continues and the garden develops, the youth will learn how to harvest the produce and the nutritional value it provides.
