2017 4-H Regional Fashion Review

The theme of this year’s Regional Fashion Review held on June 22, 2017, for the Capital Region was “Lights… Camera… Fashion.” There were two events in which participants could compete, Fashion Review and Textile Review.

On Friday, June 16, 2017, Dauphin County 4-H Members Addison Neff, Alyssa Neff, Madison Shaw, and Alexandria Neff traveled to Penn State to compete in the state 4-H Poultry Judging Contest.

“Lights… Camera… Fashion” Theme for Capital Region 4-H Fashion and Textile Revue

“Lights… Camera… Fashion” was the red carpet theme for the Penn State Extension Capital Region 4-H Fashion & Textile Revue held on June 22, 2017. Thirty-six 4-H members from Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster and Lebanon counties were judged on the appearance, fit, design, sewing construction skills, and modeling presentation skills learned as part of their 4-H Clothing and Textiles 4-H projects. Additionally, nine 4-H members showcased skills in quilting, knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, weaving and spinning with non-wearable textile items created for the 4-H Textile Revue.

Regional 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day
April 5, 2017
Twenty three 4-H members attended the second annual Regional 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day Saturday, March 25, at Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Participants from Adams, Dauphin, Perry and York counties ranging in age from eight to sixteen came to learn about their environment.
NYSD is also held in conjunction with National 4-H Week!

Stop the Invasion: Unwanted Plants, Bugs and Other Pests

Penn State Extension and Pennsylvania 4-H, with funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, created Stop the Invasion: Unwanted Plants, Bugs and Other Pests, a hands-on curriculum to address the threat of invasive species.
Youth in the Science Track of the 2017 Wildlife and Forestry Field Day learned to apply wildlife and forestry knowledge in on-site skills sessions. A sign language interpreter (center) assisted in explaining tree measuring technique.
Members Learn, Explore and Compete at 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day

The 2017 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day, held at Rock Springs, PA, was another “wild” success! 4-H youth and adults from across the state explored the wildlife and forestry sciences. The event featured an Exploratory Track for younger 4-H youth and a Science Track for teens. The theme for the Exploratory Track presented tools and methods for wildlife and forestry research, while the Science Track focused on applying research knowledge to managing forests and wildlife.
