4-H Deadlox Team Represents Clearfield County at Pittsburgh Regional Competition!
Posted: March 17, 2015
From March 5-7, 2015 six Clearfield County 4-H teens traveled to the California University of Pennsylvania to see how they would fair against 53 other teams competing with their robot, Jeeves, in the 2015 competition game, “Recycle Rush.”
At the competition teams were challenged to compete with their robot to score points by stacking recycling bins and totes! The competition was intense with qualifying matches, quarter finals, semi-finals and the final match. The Clearfield teens were excited to find out they ranked 15th out of 54 teams following the qualifying rounds and were then selected by the 2nd ranked team to compete as an alliance in the quarter-finals! 2015 team members include Maynard Weidman of Clearfield, Kameron Haines of Reynoldsville, Padon Rishell of DuBois, Abby Hopkins of DuBois, Trenton Bickel of Luthersburg and Jacob Feldbauer of DuBois.
The competition preceded to six weeks of hard work, brainstorming and engineering preceded the event as these teens worked together to design, build and program their robot. The members also created marketing mechanisms to participate in a “selling” process of their robot where they practice networking with other competitors at the event and worked with their mentors to speak with local businesses. Keep an eye out for this team as they start recruiting and looking for new members for the next competition and participate in community events!
