Pennsylvania Centennial Quilt Patch
As Pennsylvania celebrates is Centennial in 2012, a Centennial quilt will be put together and auctioned at the Penn State 4-H Tailgate on September 15, 2012. Each county is asked to submit a square for the state-wide quilt. The quilt squares should meet the following guidelines:
1. Quilt squares should be made of pre-washed cotton fabrics only.
2. The completed square should be 10” X 10” with a 1/4” allowance for putting the squares together. The submitted block should measure 10 ½” x 10 ½ “. (This means the pre-washed square will measure 10 ½” X 10 ½”.)
3. The block may be patchwork, appliqué or a combination of both. If drawing or writing on the fabric use permanent fabric markers only. Any writing design should not go into the ¼” seam allowance.
4. The quilt squares should represent an historical or current event, program, or person of Pennsylvania 4-H. Squares may represent county programming or events/activities at the state level. They may represent the change in project areas over time or any other aspect that provides a rich story of Pennsylvania’s 4-H history.
- Adults and 4-H members are encouraged to work together.
- There is a $50 prize for the quilt square chosen to represent Chester County if it is created by a 4-H member.
- Adult assistance is allowed but the quilt square cannot be the sole work of an adult for consideration for the cash prize.
Completed quilt squares for consideration as the Chester County entry for the state quilt should be sent to:
