State and National 4-H Opportunities
Pennsylvania Farm Show: Provides 4-Hers with the opportunity for a statewide fair experience. Open to any 4-Her with projects for which there are classes.
Capital Days: 4-Hers 15+ years old. Provides experiences that allow 4-Hers to better understand citizenship and government' held in Harrisburg in April.
Penn State 4-H Achievement Program: 4-Hers 13+ years old who have completed one year of club work. Encourages 4-Hers to develop self-confidence and increase skills both in project work and in decision-making. 4-Hers compete in judging contests, special activities, demonstrations, public speaking, and fashion revue and photography contests. 4-Hers may compete as individuals or as part of a team. This is an annual event held at Penn State during July/August.
Junior Dairy Show: Provides District Dairy Show winners the opportunity to compete at the state level in September.
State Horse Show: Provides District Horse Show winners the opportunity to compete at the state level in October.
Keystone Livestock Exposition: Provides 4-H Livestock members with the opportunity to participate at the state level in shows and sales.
State Ambassador Conference: Selected County Ambassadors 14+ years old participate in a statewide conference to enhance communications skills and to increase awareness of 4-H. Held in June
National Judging Contests: Provides State Winners further growth and experience in a subject area through traveling, studying, and competing. Events held around the nation during the Fall.
Citizenship...Washington Focus: Provides 4-Hers 15+ years old with the opportunity to go to Washington, D.C., to learn the components of good citizenship, the basic functions of national government and the skills for practicing and teaching citizenship at the club and county level. Quota set. Held in July.
National Congress: Provides 4-Hers 15+ years old and Team Leaders with the opportunity to participate in a 5-day program at a National location site.
National 4-H Conference: Provides outstanding PA 4-Hers 15-18 years of age with the opportunity to meet others from around the country at this 5-day conference.Held in November.
Ag Progress Days: For all 4-Hers. Showcases the current research and programs in Penn State's College of Agriculture. 4-Hers have the opportunity to do demonstrations and provide information about 4-H during the month of August.
