Out With The Old, In With The New: A New State-Wide Service Project

Posted: February 12, 2014

Penn State has announced the new state-wide service project in which Centre County will participate.

It is called Shoebox Recycling. You can bring in your old, gently worn pairs of shoes to the office for collection and donation. By participating, you are helping to cut down on textile waste while giving your new Solemate an affordable pair of kicks!

What type of shoes are accepted?

All gently worn (and paired) men’s, women’s, and children’s shoes that are still reusable and rewearable! That means no holes in the soles and nothing wet, mildewed, or torn. This includes athletic shoes, dress shoes, casual shoes, Timberland-type work boots, sandals, heels, and flats.

Shoes that are NOT accepted?

Ski boots, winter boots, roller skates, ice skates, roller blades, flip flops, crocs, bed-room slippers, or single shoes.

Shoes can be dropped off at the Centre County Extension Office and we will take them for donation to state events like State Days, Capital Days, or State Leadership Conference.
