Allegheny County is Buzzing about a New 4H Club!
Posted: April 2, 2012
Putting their new beekeeping information to work, they assembled the components of a hive and then painted their beehive. This April, the new beehive will be installed at the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania - Beechwood Farms and will serve the dual purpose of 4H club project, and new educational feature at the nature reserve. The latter, providing educational exhibits and demonstrations about honey bees for the public, is actually one of the goals of this new 4-H club. Members are actively chronicling their work with photographs for the creation and displaying of project posters. They hope to use them in future exhibits and as part of entrees into the Pennsylvania State Farm Show.
Future Bee Keepers of Fox Chapel is made up of boys and girls ages seven to twelve and led by adult volunteers who have expertise in beekeeping. If you are interested in joining the beekeeping club or would like to volunteer, contact the Allegheny County Extension Office at 412-473-2540 or AlleghenyExt@psu.edu.
