Allegheny County Rides Proud at 2016 State 4-H Horse Show

Over the weekend of October 28-30 members of the Allegheny County 4-H Horse clubs let their hooves be heard at the 2016 State 4-H Horse Show in Harrisburg. Competing this year were 14 members from the Northridge Riders and Manely Horses 4-H clubs; of the 14 participants six placed in the top 10 with two earning first place in their classes.
Local School Teams Win Regional Underwater Robotics Competition

On Saturday, February 20th, 2016, Students from over 20 high schools, middle schools, and youth organizations in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties competed in the Pittsburgh Regional SeaPerch qualifying competition. The SeaPerch program is sponsored by the U.S. Navy, in partnership with 4-H of Allegheny County, the Penn State Center Pittsburgh(PSCP) and the Pittsburgh Navy Recruitment District.

Stop the Invasion: Unwanted Plants, Bugs and Other Pests

Penn State Extension and Pennsylvania 4-H, with funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, created Stop the Invasion: Unwanted Plants, Bugs and Other Pests, a hands-on curriculum to address the threat of invasive species.
Youth in the Science Track of the 2017 Wildlife and Forestry Field Day learned to apply wildlife and forestry knowledge in on-site skills sessions. A sign language interpreter (center) assisted in explaining tree measuring technique.
Members Learn, Explore and Compete at 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day

The 2017 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day, held at Rock Springs, PA, was another “wild” success! 4-H youth and adults from across the state explored the wildlife and forestry sciences. The event featured an Exploratory Track for younger 4-H youth and a Science Track for teens. The theme for the Exploratory Track presented tools and methods for wildlife and forestry research, while the Science Track focused on applying research knowledge to managing forests and wildlife.
